Hi lovelies,
Missed you all so much. I’ve been sitting here in NYC, eating lots of cheap and 97% ripened fruit from all the street fruit stands…pineapples are $3, mangoes, strawberries, bruised nectarines…I feel like I’ve become a female version of my grandfather who’s 92, lives with my uncle in Sherman Oaks, California, and is still obsessed with picking out a perfect piece of fruit at the supermarket. And he’ll tell you every detail from plucking out the top leaf stem of a pineapple, to smelling the bottom end of a honeydew. That actually sounds perverted- but I embrace my inner pervert (just kidding, loves)!
Ok, lots happening here…I’m in the process of writing about 8 new songs- one of them I’m particularly excited about. A wonderful poet friend of mine, Mark Fogarty, was telling me about a supernatural dream he had this week, and he mentioned he was “Shaking Off The Ghosts.” He described the ghosts as more sinister spirits, that he felt were still in the room when he woke up- and I was really moved/shocked/connected/intrigued by that phrase…it’s very powerful.
So immediately that night (it was actually this past Sunday), I got myself worked up in a semi-trance, though I didn’t light candles as it’s too hot in the summer. Plus I’m trying to cut down my AC bill. But anyways- I got myself in an altered state, ran to the piano, and let chords, lyrics, melodies and song spirits fly around. I changed “Shaking Off The Ghosts” to “Shaking Off Your Ghost” and I think I have seeds planted to what could be a really good song…I can’t wait for you all to hear it.
Does anyone have any good ghost, witch or supernatural stories? I’m always intrigued, as I’ve had some spirit encounters, some of which have been on the scarier side…
Oh, and EXCITING NEWS!!!!! I hope this doesn’t sound too braggy or anything, I’m just honestly excited! But today, I got a really big Press quote from one of the most respected rock journalists at ROLLING STONE and the NY TIMES! (I don’t have any fancy pr person- so I’m always a little bit shocked when I get quotes all by me lonesome self!) The wonderful Anthony DeCurtis, has kindly given me a quote…and I’m incredibly excited about it….let me please share it with you all!

Funny, I had emailed him in Feb. and hadn’t heard back in 4 months- and then 2 nights ago I saw him do an interview on PBS ch. 13 about Sting and the final Police Renunion Tour on TV. And I thought to myself, “oh let it go…you didn’t hear back from him, that’s ok, just focus on writing more songs for the next record…make music! Making music is the most important thing to do! Let it go!”
And when I “let go” of him, of course 2 days later, he emails me! That’s how the universe works sometimes, I think. Sometimes we need to let go of things we want so much to happen, to control, and when we let go we actually create space for those things to actually happen! So detaching is actually true! Trust, focus on your art, work, life, and detach from the result. High Hopes, Low Expectations!
But I’m still excited and very honored to have Mr. DeCurtis write something so kind. I feel quite lucky.
